Advice Requested: Deutsche Bahn Timetable Change

Hi, I have made a booking on DB from Munich to Ljubljana on 27 April 2024 departing at 12.17pm, and have just been informed that there is a timetable change and that my original timetable is no longer available. I have pasted the message below.


"Due to a timetable change, your journey from München Hbf to Ljubljana on 27 April 2024 cannot be carried out as described. Click "Get current information here" for alternative journey options to your destination.


The requirement for you to travel on a specific train on your booked connection has been lifted. This means you can also use your ticket on other Deutsche Bahn long-distance trains (e.g. ICE/IC/EC), as well as local trains and S-Bahn trains.


Please note that you must book a new reservation if your connection requires one (e.g. trains to France).


You can book a new seat for your new connection if one is available. You can submit the costs for the unused original reservation for reimbursement. You can do so via the digital passenger rights claim system Digital passenger rights.


Alternatively, you can contact your sales point or the Passenger Rights Service Centre in 60647 Frankfurt."


I have looked at the alternative trains, and it appears that (1) the train numbers are the same (EC 113 from Munich and EC 213 to Ljubljana); and (2) the changeover train station has changed from Salzburg Hbf to Villach Hbf - other than that, no other changes to the departure time etc. We (3 of us) have seat reservations for the longer leg of the journey on EC 113.


I understand that we can still board the same trains, but I am not sure if we can keep the same seats that we reserved (since the train number is the same) or if we need to pay for new seats on the same train online and seek reimbursement for our original seat reservation.


It's just a few more days to our trip and I am a little concerned if we will be cutting it too close if we have to make the changes at the train station on our day of travel since we only arrive in Munich in the morning of 27 April. DB's message is not very clear and this is our first time taking long distance trains from Germany to Slovenia.

You can still board the same trains with your existing tickets. However, to ensure your seat reservations are valid, it's best to check if you can keep your original seats or need to book new ones. Visit the Deutsche Bahn Fahrplan website for accurate information and make any necessary reservations. If you need new reservations, submit the costs of the unused original ones for reimbursement via the digital passenger rights claim system.
